Earrings are timeless fashion accessories that allow women to make a statement. However, these earrings, each one more beautiful than the next, must match your physique to achieve a style that’s in line with current trends. To achieve this, a number of factors need to be taken into consideration. Want to know how to choose your earrings? Check out our tips.
The main types of earrings
Before choosing your jewelry, we’d like to introduce you to the different types of earrings available to enhance your beauty. From large, imposing pairs of earrings to discreetly seductive costume chips, there are many styles of ear jewelry, from the most classic to the most original!
Creoles are fashionable jewelry items, easily recognized by their ring shape. These round earrings give wearers a chic yet casual look. Creoles can be round, oval, square or in a variety of geometric shapes. Fine creoles are distinguished from thick creoles by the thinness of the ring. Smaller models are generally called mini-créoles.
Chips, also known as studs, are small, discreet and lightweight earrings, often worn on a daily basis, especially for work.
Clip-on earrings are beauty accessories that can be worn by women with unpierced lobes. They come in a multitude of sizes, from large, heavy triangular models to small, round earrings. Today’s models are lighter and easier to bear, unlike the famous old clips of the ’80s, which were often painful for the lobes.
Hanging earrings, or ear pendants, are generally composed of different elements such as leather, natural stones or metal. Thin, drop-shaped or ball-shaped, dangling earrings are mobile and will bring movement to your face. They’re a must-have accessory to sublimate your evening outfit, possibly with a beautiful necklace!
Dormeuses are antique earrings with a curved back. The origin of the word dormeuse comes from the original role of this jewelry: it was used to prevent earholes from clogging up during the night. Many modern models can be fitted with small dormeuses, as some women prefer them to other types of fasteners.
Choosing your ideal earrings
Jewelry shapes are not chosen by chance: you need to select them according to various factors that affect you. In this way, you’ll be able to choose models adapted to your morphology for a successful look. How wide do you need your earrings to be? Are they right for your diamond-shaped face? Here’s our advice!
Face shape and neck length
- Your face is square or rectangular: the aim is to break up the angular sides of the jaw and contours. Ideally, you should choose round models to soften the line of your face, such as silver-plated silver-plated creoles or long long earrings. However, avoid accessories that are too long and create an elongated effect, especially if you have a rectangular face.
- Your face is triangular: you have a pronounced chin. To counter the width of your chin, your ideal earrings are small hoop earrings and short earrings like fleas. Avoid imposing jewelry that accentuates your features.
- Your face is heart-shaped or an inverted triangle, with a broad forehead and a small chin: opt for wide-based styles like dangling drops. Don’t wear large jewels.
- Your face is round or diamond-shaped, with width in the cheekbones: earrings and pendants suit you perfectly! For round faces, however, avoid large creoles and other rounded earrings and prefer graphic earrings to counterbalance the lack of angles on your face.
- Your face is long and narrow: this is the ideal face morphology that allows you to wear everything! You can choose wide jewels to refine your features while favouring a less elongated effect on the face.
Do you have a long neck? Be careful not to wear jewelry that’s too long and makes your neck narrower. Medium-sized jewelry is perfect for you! The same applies if your forehead and hairline are high. For short necks, avoid at all costs earrings that are too long, as they create a settling effect, and select smaller models instead.
Haircuts
If you have short hair, you can wear simple or round shapes like silver-plated creoles to offset the tomboy effect of a short haircut. On the other hand, avoid earrings that are too voluminous.
If your hair is long or bobbed, you’ll have more options! The longer your hair is, the bigger the jewels you can wear, especially with an upswept hairstyle like a chignon.
Good to know: to avoid lobe irritation, remember to clean your earrings regularly.
